Artist Statement:
Auguste Comete, the forefather of sociology, is credited with initiating the use of scientific methodologies in observing society. This series of images explores the methodologies of sociology and the foundation of structuralism. Investigating the relationships of skewed perspective, the attempt is made to observe through layers, or filters; in order to demonstrate and better understand the obscurities humans must see and choose to look through daily.
The color selection and title pull from the use of technology in displaying information, as well as the documentation and understanding of material from the quantitative data collector’s position. Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and K(b)lack are the inks used in making these prints; calibrated within the spectrum range of human eyesight, assuring the best conveyance of idea. The images draw from these components in order to ask the viewer of their willingness to understand from different perspectives or at least acknowledge what is blinding.
Title: Neb-you-lus; Nebuleye
Medium: Ink Jet Print
These images compare the macro detail of the human eye, noting similarities in structure and uniqueness to cosmic nebula by layering images from the Hubbell Telescope and NASA. Observing inward, looking at the object we ourselves see with, it is as inspiring and thought provoking as looking to the stars. These images are intended to hang from the ceiling forcing the viewer to look up as they observe the artwork.
